Join Us for a Celebration

We’ll present STAR Awards and share poems and special shoutouts to recognize the great work happening across our CWEE community – and enjoy some lunch! Participants are welcome to write a note to their Program Advisor or share a poem or message to be read during the event. All participants and staff are invited to attend.

CWEE Happenings

Post Career Readiness Support Labs
These guided labs provide hands-on job search support for participants who have completed Career Kickstart or Career Readiness and are seeking further education and/or employment opportunities. The CWEE Education & Employment team will be available to help with applications, job search strategies, and overcoming barriers. Participants can attend one or multiple sessions based on needs. Wednesday, 10/14 and Tuesday, 10/20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at CWEE.

Childcare Workshop
Is a lack of childcare getting in the way of your goals? Join us at CWEE for our new Childcare Workshop! We’ll explore childcare options for children of all ages and connect you with organizations that can help you find quality, affordable childcare. We’ll learn about:

Affordable childcare resources
Public, private, and community-based care options
Organizations that support parents
Connecting with other parents for support
Tips for navigating the challenges of arranging childcare

Come get resources, share experiences, and support from parents who get it! Upcoming Dates: 9/24, 10/29, 12/3; All sessions are on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at CWEE.

Resources Workshops: Transportation and Housing
CWEE is hosting workshops designed to help participants build confidence, strengthen skills, and connect with valuable community resources. Led by Renee Kleck, CWEE’s Social Emotional Learning Facilitator, these sessions will focus on self-advocacy, communication, and self-regulation while exploring topics such as housing resources and transportation options, including navigating public transit and learning about RTD bus passes. Each workshop highlights a different resource area, giving participants the tools and knowledge to access support. All participants are welcome to join! All sessions are 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Drop In Support from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m at CWEE. RSVP to rkleck@cwee.org.

Parent Support Group
For Families of Children Receiving Special Education Services:
Do you have a child with an IEP, 504 Plan, or who receives services like Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), or Speech Therapy (ST)? You are not alone.
Join us at CWEE for a welcoming space to:

Connect with other families who understand your journey
Share experiences, challenges, and successes
Learn from one another and access helpful resources
Build a supportive community

Who is this for? Parents, caregivers, and family members of children receiving special education services.
Where & When: This group will gather on Wednesday, 10/7 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wellness Suite on CWEE’s 2nd floor, straight ahead when you exit the elevator.
What to expect: A relaxed, judgment-free environment where you can talk, listen, and feel supported. Lunch is provided, and infants may come with their caregiver.
Facilitated by: Renee Kleck, Social Emotional Learning Facilitator at CWEE. Renee brings both professional and personal experience as a former Special Education teacher and as a parent of a child with an IEP. Contact Renee if you have any questions at rkleck@cwee.org.

CWEE’s Peer Support Group
Looking for a space to connect? CWEE is hosting a drop-in Peer Support Group for participants facilitated by Renee, CWEE’s Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. This is a confidential and welcoming space to share what’s on your mind, swap resources, and support one another. Come as you are. And yes, there will be pizza! All participants are welcome. Childcare isn’t available, but parents can bring their infants. If you can’t make every session, that’s okay. Drop by the CWEE Wellness Suite on the 2nd floor when you can. Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.; Upcoming Dates: Wednesdays – 10/21, 10/28, 11/18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Find Support with CWEE Counseling
Did you know that CWEE’s Wellness Team offers FREE individual, family, and couples therapy for current and former participants, including participants who recently transferred back to Denver county?

Our experienced and trauma-informed therapists are available to support you with managing stress, healing from trauma, strengthening relationships, improving communication, and building healthy coping skills. Getting started is easy. Simply click the link below or scan the QR code on the attached flyer to complete a counseling request form, or ask any CWEE staff member for a referral. A member of our Wellness Team will reach out to discuss counseling options and help connect you with the support that best meets your needs.

Get Ahead Colorado and the Colorado Department of Revenue are highlighting SimpleFile, a new free online filing tool that can help eligible Colorado families claim up to $4,473 in state tax credits per child or dependent age 16 and under. Families with low or no income may qualify, and the credit generally does not affect benefits such as SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, or TANF. Get Ahead Colorado will host a free SimpleFile information session on Wednesday, 9/30, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. via Google Meet for those who want to learn more.

Hispanic heritage is Colorado heritage, and this month is an opportunity to recognize the many community members making a difference across our state.

Medicaid Information Session
Colorado Access will lead an information session on Wednesday, 9/30 at 6 p.m. to help community members understand upcoming changes to Medicaid and what steps they may need to take. The session will be held at the Colorado People’s Center, 730 21st St., with English and Spanish interpretation available. Attendees can register to indicate their language preference and whether childcare is needed. Join this session to get information, ask questions, and learn how upcoming changes may affect your Medicaid coverage.

Know Your Tenant Rights: Free Community Sessions
Learn about your rights as a Colorado renter through a free presentation series hosted by the Community Economic Defense Project. Sessions cover renting, leases, evictions, problems with rental housing, and protections against discrimination. One-on-one consultations will be available with an attorney. Spanish interpretation is available at all sessions. Join the conversation at Eloise May Library on 9/21 and 9/28, or Sheridan Library on 10/5 and 10/26, all on Mondays at 6 p.m.

Seasonal Christmas Jobs at Gaylord Rockies!
Gaylord Rockies is hiring for its signature ICE! Christmas attraction and hosting a seasonal hiring event on Saturday, 9/26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora. Seasonal positions include guest services, retail, entertainment, attractions, scheduling, and sales roles. Applicants should arrive by 2 p.m. to allow enough time for the interview process. FREE Halloween Costumes!
Commerce City Police Department is hosting its fourth annual “Costumes with a Cop” event on Saturday, 10/17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave. Families can shop for free new or gently used Halloween costumes with local officers, with sizes ranging from infants through larger teens. Children must be present to receive a costume, and costumes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Families are encouraged to arrive early.

Encore Career Fair
Arapahoe/Douglas Works!, in partnership with the City of Centennial and the Centennial Senior Commission, is hosting the 9th Annual Encore Career Fair on Wednesday, 10/7. The event connects jobseekers with employment opportunities ranging from entry-level to management, whether they are looking for a new career, continuing in their current field, or earning extra income. Veterans and spouses receive priority from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by the general public from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bring a resume and dress to impress.

Just for Kids

High School Students: Admission to Mines!
Colorado residents graduating from a Colorado high school may qualify for guaranteed admission to Colorado School of Mines, along with a minimum $2,000-per-year merit scholarship. To qualify, students must meet specific GPA, math and science coursework requirements, including completing pre-calculus or trigonometry and three years of lab-based science. Eligible students must apply by the Early Action deadline of Sunday, 11/1. The program is designed to help Colorado students pursuing engineering, applied sciences, and other technical fields stay in Colorado for their education and career.

Hometown Heroes Day is Coming to Aurora!
Join the community for Aurora’s inaugural Hometown Heroes Day on Saturday, 10/10, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Town Center at Aurora, 14200 E. Alameda Ave., for a FREE afternoon of family fun. Meet local first responders, explore police and emergency vehicles, enjoy demonstrations and kids’ activities, and connect with more than 50 community organizations and local resources. The event will also feature giveaways and more. There’s something for everyone!
