The Adult Education Instructor teaches blended (ABE/ASE/HSE Prep) classes full-time within an embedded setting at CWEE, an integrated education and employment program that includes comprehensive services to help individuals sustain long-term employment. The Instructor plans, develops, and implements the Adult Basic and Secondary Education program curriculum. The Instructor provides information to learners about the three HSE exams, GED, HiSET, and TASC, and prepares them to pass those exams and transition on to the next step in their career pathway.



  • Provide direct group instruction and 1:1 individualized tutoring to students preparing for the High School Equivalency exam and/or post-secondary education and training.
  • Develop and implement curriculum tailored to content on the High School Equivalency exam.
  • Assess students' skill level and educational history, and create individualized education plans that meet their learning needs and fit in with their long-term career goals.
  • Engage students across a broad range of skill levels using a variety of proven teaching skills and motivation strategies while meeting the needs of individual learning styles.
  • Create a positive, healthy, and productive learning environment for all learners by using effective classroom management based on respect, safety, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Work within CWEE to implement a fully integrated, embedded partnership model by attending CWEE team and all-staff meetings and participating in CWEE retreats and community building activities.
  • Orient new students every two weeks in a continuous enrollment classroom structure.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other staff across CWEE departments to understand each student's career goals and to help them progress through the different phases of CWEE's training program.
  • Refer students to meet with their on-site case manager if/when additional supportive services are needed.
  • Provide consultation and expertise to CWEE regarding best practices in adult education, including resources for external assessments and referrals to other community training programs, as needed.
  • Oversee volunteer tutors and provide assistance regarding curriculum, teaching methods and materials.
  • Perform daily record-keeping and data reporting responsibilities to CWEE staff and The Learning source. Develop forms, processes, and procedures to track student progress, attendance, and outcomes.
  • Attend Professional Development trainings and workshops as assigned by The Learning Source Program Manager.



  • College degree in education, liberal arts or a related field.
  • Experience teaching adults and learners with diverse needs, particularly economically diverse communities and/or historically underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of High School Equivalency exams.
  • Experience with education assessment tools - experience with TABE preferred.
  • Understanding of group instruction principles and classroom management.
  • Experience supervising volunteers.
  • Communication style that is positive, supportive, and professional.



  • Adult Basic Education Authorization, or ability to obtain within three years.
  • Familiarity with strengths-based, trauma-informed program design.
  • Experience in workforce development and/or career readiness programs.
  • Knowledge of public benefits programs, with a specific focus on TANF (welfare to work) requirements.
  • Database experience in tracking program outcomes.
  • Lifelong learner and self-starter committed to continuous program improvement and student outcomes.
